Merespon makna dan langkah retorika dalam esei yang menggunakan ragam bahasa tulis secara akurat, lancar dan berterima dalam konteks kehidupan sehari-hari dan untuk mengakses ilmu pengetahuan dalam teks berbentuk discussion.

Siswa dapat:

1. mengidentifikasi topik/ gagasan utama dari sebuah paragraf.
2. mendapat informasi tertentu dari teks yang dibaca.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy

Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The debate of whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to the environment.

Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the increasing of the energy needs. In their opinion, the other sources of energy : oil, and liquid natural gas is not renewable and safe, while nuclear energy can be sustainable when produced in a safe way.

However people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy think that the waste of nuclear products can completely destroy environment and human lives. A meltdown in a reactor, for example, usually result in the contamination of the surrounding soil and water. Take for example, the blow up of the nuclear reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Rusia twenty years ago. The serious contamination imperiled people and the environment severely.

It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers the environment but what about a less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy? Are there any alternative energies to overcome the crisis of energy ?

Abortion : legal or Illegal

There has been a great deal of discussion on the problem of abortion. He discussion include: Is abortion legal or illegal?".

When country face the problem of overpopulation, the government applied some methods to solve it. One of them is the method of contraception. However, this method is not one hundred percent effective and successful. Consequently, some people argue that the abortion is the only effective way out.

Nevertheless, abortion may causes many negative effects for women's health. Women risk their health and live in bearing the weight of the operation and its consequences. The most common complications are inflammation, infertility, and many other kinds of illnesses.

So far, abortions have become a dilemma for countries with large number of citizen.

The government has submitted the draft of the bill against pornography and pornographic act. The bill states that anyone who engaging in pornography is punishable by law. This includes public acts such as spouses kissing and people sunbathing in bikini or swimwear. As consequence, the bill causes controversy.

On the other hand, the government argue that the bill is made to protect women's rights. Women have so far been the object of exploitation in mass media and this only gives more benefits to the owner of the business.

Women activist, on the other hand, argue that the bill, will limit women's freedom. They believe the bill will dictate what women should wear and on how to dress and behave. If they fail following he rule they will get penalties between Rp 50 million and Rp 1 billion.

Nevertheless, I do support the bill against pornography and pornographic act. I believe that the bill can decrease the rampant pornography shown or written in mass media that gives bad effect on young generation.
